Build a bridge and get over it!

February! FEB - RU - ARY. I hate February. I hate how it falls between January (not quite the dead of winter) and March (spring!). I even hate the way it's spelled (or is that spelt). I hate the way I always have to say it out loud (or in my head when others are around) as I spell it to make sure I get it right...FEB - RU - ARY. I hate how it is always the shortest month of the year but always feels like the longest. I don't particulary like Valentine's Day either so why shouldn't it fall in the month I detest. That holiday no longer seems to be the time to celebrate your love for another person but another exercise in helping to write out 75 Valentine's Day cards for my kids' friends at school, Sparks and Daycare! Just more work that has to be done when I would rather just stay in bed and catch up on my Chatelaine and Canadian Living magazines.

February also seems to be the time of year that all the spring and summer clothes get to the stores. Who is buying a bathing suit, sun hats, shorts and breezy skirts in February? This just adds to my depression when I am shopping and having to bundle up to cross the street to the mall on my lunch hour. I'm sure I am not the only mother that is going out this time of year to buy replacement hats and mittens and boots that the kids have decided to outgrow before the end of the season!! Why can't retailers get it together with the seasons? It's bad enough that they rush every commercialized holiday but they have to go and mess with entire seasons too?

Winter Wonderland... yeah right! Perhaps if I could go south for the month every year I would enjoy it. The older I get the more I hate the winter. I truly believe that kids don't feel the cold like us adults who don't ski do. Why else would kids dawdle when going from the house to the car, to the car to school and back again, twice a day, five days a week?! They have no clue you are standing out there twice as long as they are trying to get them from one place to another. Let's not forget the colds, flu and Norwalk! My family has been recirculating the same germs for the last 6 weeks and I don't think going out in the cold for a walk once in a while will help with that so don't even suggest we get out more often.

Well, only 5 more days of FEB - RU - ARY left and then we are into March! Can't wait, the weather had just better cooperate and start melting this last dump of snow we got. I can't take it anymore! There I feel better. I have vented my hatred for February and have updated my website for those of you that keep checking in. I'm off to shovel snow now.
